Today the Supreme Court struck down the DC gun ban. I agree with the ruling. It is good to see times when the constitution is interpreted literally -- if only it would happen more often ...
Anyways, one thing I found interesting was Obama's and McCain's statements on the ruling:
"Today's ruling, the first clear statement on this issue in 127
years, will provide much-needed guidance to local jurisdictions across
the country." - Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill. "This ruling does
not mark the end of our struggle against those who seek to limit the
rights of law-abiding citizens. We must always remain vigilant in
defense of our freedoms." - Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. Notice the total non-statement of Obama vs McCain's approval. I'm pretty sure that Obama hates the ruling and isn't honest enough to say so because he feels it would hurt his candidacy. Though I'm not a big fan of McCain, I do appreciate that he doesn't always flinch from saying what he thinks when it inexpedient.
UPDATE: McCain didn't pass up the chance to poke Obama: “Unlike the elitist view that believes Americans cling to guns out of
bitterness, today’s ruling recognizes that gun ownership is a
fundamental right — sacred, just as the right to free speech and
assembly,” McCain said. |
